I got into my first car accident last night on my way to church. It was raining a decent amount and I was coming off an exit ramp too fast, and my car started sliding all over the place. Not only did I jump over the curb on the left before the merge area, but I also jumped the median, putting me in the middle lane of the opposite side of the road, perpendicular to the oncoming traffic. It was a miracle that my car didn't flip through it all.
I was shaking pretty badly, and I yelled at my sister (who was with me) to get out of the car as I frantically searched for my phone. Thankfully, while I called 911, oncoming cars easily drove around my car and a few people asked me if I was alright. Once I had moved my car off to the side, I found that the only thing that had actually happened to my car was that one tire had popped and one brake light had broken. My youth pastor came to help, and he and one of my teachers just swapped out the tires and we all went back to church. I spent the night at my cousin's house down in the area, and now I'm back home.
So what to take out of this crazy experience? I was stupid for not being more careful in the rain, especially with my sister in the car. I'm now really thankful that I drive a tank of a car that can really take a beating. Above all, I finally understand that God is in complete control of whether we live or die. I know this because it really was a miracle that my car didn't flip after hitting two curbs and by the fact that there were no other cars on both sides of the road when this happened.
All in all, I was pretty shaken up, but I'm fine now. Hopefully I'll never be this stupid again.
